i really want you to consider to create a subdomains for different languages when needed.
then we can think what core pages do we need for that localized sites to describe all necessary info about Vanilla
if it will be done i will be the first translated all pages into 2 or 3 languages by myself or with the help of comunity.
i think dokuwiki http://www.wikimatrix.org/show/DokuWiki has a subdomain per language ability?
Or how do you suggest to do that?
Anyway, dont you want to have v.2 release with just english website frontend?
