How to render the activity page into the discussions section

Hello,
I'd like to put the activity page into the discussions section, with an additional button "Activities" in addition to the "All Questions" and " Popular" buttons inside the .DiscussionsTabs tab, but i failed miserably.
Sure i was able to add manually a button to the tabs, but i've noticed there is no "active/inactive state" recognition for manually embeded buttons .
And the rest is actually all klingon to me.
Would appreciate a helping hand here.
