I know this question has been discussed before, but the threads I've plowed recently have all been about Vanilla 1.x. So I'm raising this topic again, addressing Vanilla 2.x. The absence of such functionality is the only big downside I've found about Vanilla and it's keeping me from migrating from phpBB3. The nature of the forum I maintain is divided first by city, then by forums therein, så even though I want to switch to superior Vanilla, this really can't be done right now. :(

Is this an upcoming feature?
Has anyone in the community plans on writing such a plugin?

Not being a programmer myself I can only hope and assist… :)

  • You would think that with all these requests they would do something about it. I still have not found the answer to this. I also want to do a main regional category followed by the cities and I want to have another main category with other stuff. Cant seem to find the way. I just upgraded to V2 and the Parent Category option is not there for me. What's up with that?

the answers is documentation - categories

you can drag drop categories below other categories to make that category child of the parent category.

@Todd i see some of the images broken at page http://vanillaforums.org/docs/managecategories - can you make sure they work proper???? Thanks

my site http://www.homebrewforums.net is chock full of sub categories.

the only complaint i have is that you can not dynamically expand/collapse the subcategories like folder branches. That would be a big plus in my book.
