WARNING: your custom htaccess will be overwritten during upgrade

Is there a way to improve this for upgrades? If others have customized .htaccess file, the one included in the vanilla package can easily overwrite it during copy. Is there any way for the system to write to the existing file instead? Another suggestion is maybe have .htaccess name htaccess.txt or something? What does everyone think?

Are there any plans for vanilla to ADD TO the existing htaccess file instead of overwriting it. Any changes to the host panel need to be applied each time.
