How can I separate First Comment from the next one?

Well.. first of all sorry for my english, my main language is spanish..

Now.. my problem is that im trying to make a theme from scratch..

I need to separate the first comment from all the rest.. heres a little mockup of what i want: http://i.imgur.com/kAx8b.png

The "notepad" like page is the fistcomment (the original post) and i need to higlight it.

What i have in the default markup is this

  • content
What i see in the helper_functions.php you print all the markup and the only things that change is the class firstcomment.. i need a different markup for the first comment and the next comments.. how can i achieve this? it can't be done? Im a designer not a coder but i can understand code not generate new one :(
