Converting from Vanilla 1 to Vanilla 2 loses links

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but when I converted from a Vanilla 1 forum to a Vanilla 2 forum all the links that were working in version 1 stopped working in version 2.
To fix it I tried editing the old message (even looked at the HTML directly) and while it looks fine and the preview works fine, it doesn't work when you save the post. The link just doesn't show up.
When I copy and paste the exact same message into a new post, the link does work. Anyone know how to fix it en mass?
