How can I configure popup notification interval (including deactivation)?

edited June 2011 in Vanilla 2.0 - 2.8
Currently popup notifications are using 55% of all resources used by my forum. How can I configure their behaviour, or even disable them completely?

There's not a way to do that now no.

The popup interval is once a minute. That's a pretty long interval.

@Todd yes, it's a good interval. However, my users don't read one discussion at a time. In fact, I don't do it that way: when I see the list of discussion, I open all unread discussions in a different tab almost at the same time.

I managed to use htaccess to deny access to the inform url and resource usage on my server is acceptable now.

Clearly, this means that the forum admin needs to setup caching and other stuff in order to improve performance. But that it's not accessible to everyone, specially in a shared hosting (I'm using the (gs) on mediatemple), so it would be nice to be able to configure the popup notifications.
