Importing from vbulletin 3.* feed imports only users.

I used the php tool provided to export my vbulletin site. it seemed to work fine (though I dont understand why it can't save to a file instead of displaying it, mine was bloody huge).

the file will not import properly.

i managed to get it to import without errors... but the problem is that the feed was read incorrectly. it looks like every line was interpreted as 'users' and noting else was imported. no discussions, categories anything.

can anyone shed some light on this? anyone seen it before?

i tried updating to the latest version of vanilla, and now i get this:

This importer is fail.

no dice. i got it past that part and then got another silly error about the admin user not being in the import set:

its DEFINITELY correct. I used the same password for everything. i'm VERY sure.

anyone here on the dev team got any word on how bloody difficult this is to import?

The exporter does allow you to save it to the server rather than having it display the file. Let's back up and start there. Be sure you have the entire file.

you are right.

initially because of permissions the file failed to save but after some fiddling it saved just fine.

a note to people wanting to import using this tool:
on a mac, in ANY browser the exported file does NOT import at all. It's so full of errors (possibly due to character encoding and misplaced carriage returns and all that) it caused me to waste a lot of time on it. Use the file it creates every time. Save yourself some hassle.
