How does this work?

Hi, I'm trying to utilize this application for my site, in hopes of adding a "Latest Forum Discussions" section to it. However, i'm having the hardests of times figuring out exactly how they work. I've tried going to the links posted on the page, but nothing happened. Can anyone help?
