After you reverted to the backup of the database re-do the upgrades. When everything is working fine, then make a new backup and destroy the backup you reverted to. Reason : The backup you reverted to isn't upgraded properly. You revert to a database with errors, that's why you need to upgrade again.
Just don't overpay that someone. It's very easy tasks and about 10 minutes work. The simple solution is executing precisely what you did last time, meaning upgrading again. Remember what you did after you saw the august 13th post by S? You need to do exactly that.
Give it a try. It almost cannot get worse. You have a backup anyway (which isn't upgraded properly), so when things go wrong, just revert to that backup. All you need to do is 4 steps: 1. Backup your conf/config.php 1. Delete all the .ini files in your cache/ folder 2. Run the /utility/update 3. Running /utility/structure It looks like step 1 could be confusing, but give it a try. Steps 2 and 3 are similar. Instead of http://yoursite.com/discussions go to http://yoursite.com/utility/update and http://yoursite.com/utility/structure
