is it possible to change the links to dofollow and for specific categories?

Very dangerous indeed. But kickstarting a community could immensely benefit from a closer relationship between the new gamification process and dofollow link sleuths. A few very different ideas for able plugin coders out there pop to mind:

• A - include the option to associate badges and/or rank to dofollow status
• B – enable a manual dofollow button in posts to be used by moderators to reward high quality posts
• C - enable high peer-rated posts to be in full dofollow automatically
• D - enable karma from the karma plugin to be used to purchase occasional dofollows.

"A" would be best to reward loyal high-status members and to benefit the wider community by enabling the site authors/administrators/moderators to spread commentluv with only minimal risk of abuse.

"B" and "C" would be best for attracting intelligent comment by link-builders. This is a booming trend in some parts of the blogosphere and for a good reason: there is more good content, and abuse is staved off thanks to moderator ("B") or peer ("C") intervention.

I really like this idea but there doesn't seem to be much progress since this post was written with giving more power to respected members. The most I could find on editing links to dofollow was from here https://open.vanillaforums.com/discussion/comment/251221/#Comment_251221

Would be good to give more editorial power to moderators allowing deleting the rel="nofollow" from their links at-least.

Technically "dofollow" doesn't actually exist as google and other search engines just ignore that having no rel="" is probably better and less confusing.
