edited March 2012 in Vanilla 2.0 - 2.8

I updated my site to 2.18.2 when it first time released and then, my visitor come from google decrease from ~ 2000 per day to ~500 per day and still decreasing.
Make some effort to find the error. I know that any catergory page had this meta link:

< link rel="canonical" href="http://bh8.vn/muaban/categories" />

And in discussion, there is a link rel too:

< link rel="canonical" href="http://bh8.vn/muaban/discussion/.../p1" />

So the catergory page disapear from google search result page and discussion disapeared, too. It just have /p1 page, not the original page.

Any one have the same problem? or my site have a problem.
I think it a big problem in SEO

Sorry for my bad english.

From what I've read on the canonical part, it is to increase google rank by removing duplicate content. This way google knows to index just one page, instead of all url that goes to the same page.

As for your issue, no idea. Sorry.

  • But the problem is that it better add this link rel in page 1, not the original and the rel in any caterogry is:

    <link rel="canonical" href="http://bh8.vn/muaban/categories" />

    It's completely wrong!

  • If you want to know how it affect your site.
Try to search your catergory with your domain in google.
You will not see your catergory link in serp.
It's a extremly big problem so that our vanillaforums.org don't use the canonical in their forum

  • you server should to the correct redirect. if not you need to change that.

    grep is your friend.
