@bh8vn is correct, an answer can be found in the README. It sounds like you have installed Vanilla in an other directory than the root directory. There's a step in the README involving changing a few JS calls in the default.master.tpl if you have installed Vanilla in any other directory than the root. Got it to work. But, the profile thing doesn't work. When I click on my username in the navigation, nothing comes down.

Sounds like you haven't updated the core jQuery library. Please refer to the installation instructions found in the README for info on how to do so

The funny thing about instructions - if they are provided, nobody reads them. if they aren't there, people complain there are no instructions. You can't win, can you?
