Customizing the registration screen in hosted vanilla to help with spam filtering / applicant screen

We have a hosted vanilla forum and have recently had to turn on manual approval of new registrations because of increased spam volume. I mainly use the content of the "Why do you want to join?" field to screen new applicants. Unfortunately many legitimate applicants don't write anything there, presumably because they think it's stupid or pointless. I would like to either customize the question or add a brief message to emphasize that if they skip this field, their application may be denied or be held in moderation for a long time. It would be really great to be able to do this from the admin dashboard. Any chance this feature will be added?
