Wordpress plugin 1.1.14 and localhost

Hi,

I'm triing to setup vanilla forums with my wordpress site in local, and I got the error "Couldn't find a Vanilla Forum at this url :/". The URL I use is "http://localhost/mysite/forum" where I extract the forum. CUrl is installed, I use XAMPP and all the lastest versions of Wordpress and Vanilla Forums.

What can I do ?

Thanks.

    Welcome to the community!

What version number of Vanilla are you running?

Can you see your Vanilla forum when you go to http://localhost/mysite/forum?

  • Thanks !

I'm using the version 2.0.18.10, and yes, I can see the forum when I go to "http://localhost/mysite/forum".

Are you using a relative URL or an absolute URL in the WP plugin set up?

  • I'm using the absolute URL, exactly "http://localhost/mysite/forum".

Please try using a relative URL.

  • I tried with "../forum" and it didn't work.

    Calling... @Shadowdare, @peregrine‌, @vrijvlinder‌, @R_J?

I haven't used this plugin in a while, perhaps they can help.

I don't use vanilla embedding or even attempt to mess with it and usually tell people to make their own skin to match wordpress theme, and don't embed, so I can't help, other than to say I recommend against embedding, sorry. Maybe the others can help.

however, the last time I followed the various instructions in the forun on how to embed it did embed.

see what happens on 2.0.18.11 or 2.1rc1

I may not provide the completed solution you might desire, but I do try to provide honest suggestions to help you solve your issue.

Never used embed and/or Wordpress. But Google gives a lot of hits for "Couldn't find a Vanilla Forum at this url"
Most of them have to do with curl not being installed, but you already have checked that. I guess this is a good read: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/couldnt-find-a-vanilla-forum-at-this-url-solution
Adrian notes 5 reasons why you can get that error. Maybe you have that loopback problem which is noted in that discussion?

By the way, @Lincoln: if curl needs to be installed for this plugin, wouldn’t it be clever to check for curl in the Setup function or the settings screen of the embed plugin so that this potential error will be addressed to the admin as soon as possible?

  • First of all the check is not all that accurate. You can safely ignore it in many cases.

It doesn't necessarily mean you don't still have issues.

The whole plugin is in need of a rewrite.

What features are you hoping to use? If you want to use JsConnect SSO I suggest you use a different plugin for that, becuase this one uses an obscure hook that often not include in themes.

    grep is your friend.

@R_J It should definitely report that as the error instead of "can't be found" when cURL is missing. It should also make clear that you don't need the URL to actually validate for anything except the widgets. SSO will work just fine regardless.

Unfortunately WordPress dictates that plugins must be under Subversion which I have no idea how to use so I never touch that plugin :D One day I will suck it up and figure it out but that day is not today.
