Slashes aren't removed...

I'm using Vanilla 1.1.4 and have a strange problem with slashes. I have magic quotes turned off but any apostrophes in posts are displayed with slashes in front... (slashes & double quotes are also escaped). Is vanilla escaping these characters, and if so, why isn't it removing slashes before displaying posts?

If Vanilla is indeed escaping the apostrophe character, it will do so by putting in its own slash, if there's already a slash there it'll end up with 2 slashes, one of which will disappear with the escaped character, the other one will display.

I'm not putting in any slashes or doing any escaping... It's like it's adding slashes but not removing them before being displayed.

So on my installation, this post would show up like this:

Sorry, I wanted to nudge this back up to the top. I've noticed some older discussions on here also have slashes before apostrophes... e.g. http://lussumo.com/addons/index.php?PostBackAction=AddOn&AddOnID=336 Is there some setting not quite right in my installation that might be causing this on my installation??
