Merge and Sink

When I merge comments into a sunken thread, its causes the the thread to float to the top-- which is troublesome, and I'm trying to merge people's fights/bickering into a thread so they can continue fighting without it further derailing the conversation.

Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening?

    You might want to post this question/bug in the thread of the extension you're using to merge discussions. Are you using ModTools?
