Welcome email to new signups

I am VERY new to vanilla and NOT a coder (hail, thee(s)), but am trying to have vanilla setup so that: (1) applicants are auto approved as members and , (2) applicants receive a welcome email from the forum. ANY and all help is appreciated! Thanks, SG

I think I can provide some help with (1):

go to the settings page (with admin account) and click on the registration settings link.

right there, change the first select, the new member role to Member, click the save button and thats it!
