whispers won't enable...help

When I'm signed into vanilla and go to the application settings, I check the box by enable whispers and when I click the save button, the check box is no longer checked. It's kind of annoying to say the least. I don't know what could be causing this. Forum is at www.epochchurchjax.com/forum Can someone help me with this?

    Do any of your settings update when you click save?

    If not, you may need to change the permissions of your conf/settings.php file. Make sure the webserver can read and write to it.

    It seems that I can change everything else but enable whispers. conf/settings.php set to 755 Literally everything else is changeable but this one thing.
