Could you explain this in a little more detail? Where is the WordPress repository? Is this functional for non-WordPress self-hosted sites?

Here's the Vanilla Forums plugin on the WordPress repository:

You can also access the repository through your Wordpress dashboard. Just search for Vanilla Forums. I hope that helps.

I have added it. The recent discussions widget has stopped working. Removed and re-installed. Still, it doesnt appear
