I'm currently looking at creating a little plug-in for my forum that will send me a mail (performing logic checking and formatting the mail, so the built in notification isn't what I'm looking for) when a user posts a comment, starts a new discussion or sends a conversation message. I'm not sure what I can hook into to check this.

Is there an event or something that covers both discussions and conversations?

I have downloaded and used Vanilla for my forums for quite some months now, and have begun on customizing it for my needs. And one of the things I want changed is the directories and to delete some directories.

I have a screenshot illustrating what I want, and I hope for someone to be able to explain how to achieve this :)

EDIT: It seems the picture doesnt show what I want to erase, but the things I have translated below is what I want erased.

Translations: Alle diskusjoner = All discussions Mine diskusjoner = My discussions Mine kladder = My drafts

Please let me know if you know how to do this, as it would really help me achieve what I want.

I go to theme options and there is a text box to add text (or a path to an image?).

What path do I use? Do I type in "myfolder/header.jpg"?

Or "http://www.mydomain.com/myfolder/header.jpg"?

Neither works. I've tried using a path to an external image on another server. No luck at all.

Why isn't there a simple instruction on how to do this?

In the Vanilla ProxyConnect addon settings, I have set the Main Site URL as http://www.mydomain.com/site

I have also tried setting it as http://www.mydomain.com

I have tried cookie as both .mydomain.com and mydomain.com

The automatic wordpress installation did not connect, using main domain or subdirectory, so I pasted all values from wordpress plugin into the Vanilla addon.

I still get failed test.

After installing the vanilla plugin on my wordpress portion, my forums are broken. I just get the "bonk" page.

Since webhosts are not so keen on changing MySQL system variables, I recommend that in next version, pull out every DB table name from the code to a config file as constants. Then people could easily change uppercase to lowercase in db table names if they want to.

Please make the database cross-platform.

I guess that means that as far as PHP is concerned, curl is enabled. I'm not sure if there is a way to verify this. In Vanilla, plugins like Facebook authentication cannot be enabled saying "This plugin requires curl.". Google Sign In can be enabled, but when I attempt to use it I get a "Bonk".

I've downloaded the latest version of curl for Windows, but it is just an exe file. What am I supposed to do with it? Any suggestions on how enable curl?

I run a website that I made myself, I didn't want to use anything like Drupal (whatever the term for these things is). On my website I have a WordPress blog, a Vanilla Forums forum, and other sections. At the top of every page on my website I have a header (via server side include), and I was hoping to be able to include a member login widget in my header. I understand I can integrate my WordPress and Vanilla Forum software to share a common login, but I haven't found a way to put a login widget on an external page of my website (not a Vanilla Forums page or Wordpress page).

I'm hoping that someone could make the learning curve for making an Application less steep for me

I already know how to

1. Write/use a View
2. Write/use a Model
3. Write a plugin that use View/Model and modify data owned by a Controller.
4. Write Module and load it in a Controller

But when I try to write a controller, I know there's a lot of essential stuff that's not covered in Controller & URLs.

Like, even though I managed to make side panel appear, I didn't know what I was doing as I was merely copying from another stock controller.

Tried to take a look at VanillaCMS, too many stuffs in there.

Can someone teach me how to create a simple Hello World (Dashboard, ie. backend) controller?

example :

1. Getting the sidebar to appear.
2. Adding link to your pages to the menu in sidebar (without using plugin)
3. Controlling access to the page.

I'll contribute back with an app that's simple but useful... (If i know how)...
