Obviously it uses different css files, so lets say :

default is custom.css

We can trigger alternative themes, but need to append the new css file to the current page. Thats all done BUT !

They are named:

apple.css
grape.css
pear.css

My question is: will vanilla tolerate custom.css being replaced by apple.css in the dom.
The switcher works perfectly and has cookies built in, so users can switch willy nilly across themes.

But wondering if its a goer with Vanilla.

If it is, I will deploy on a live test forum, this is for an upcoming commercial theme.

Hi all,

I think it's time to give some kudo's, thanks, likes to the Vanilla developers!

These guys are working their respective asses off just to give us this kick-ass forum, it's time we give something back to them.

Documentation
Working on it. I think we, as a community, could work on that. We don't need the developers unless there's something really techy going on. We would love to see their input though...

Testing
We all should do some testing on 2.1 (on local system!).

The tech (coder) guys could do the more technical testing, see if plugins still work on 2.1, report weird stuff (and hopefully solutions!) and bugs on gitHub.

The theme guys could see if all the themes still work on 2.1, report weird stuff (and hopefully solutions!) on gitHub. Make more themes if you like, guys, 2.1 has some new things regarding themeing.

For the guys that say : "I'm not a themer and I'm not a coder" we could use your help on the Vanilla Wiki site. That brings me to the following question : Do we want full sourcecode documentation? Do we want a full user manual? Just a user-guide? Or only how-to's?

Plugins
Do all plugins still work with 2.1?
Do they unpack / unzip correctly? (report from the plugin's page if it doesn't!)
Any issues installing?
Any issues using in combination with other plugins?
Theme issues?

All this can be done, while our great Vanilla Developers are working on 2.1. We as a community could do these things. Who's willing to help?

in the meantime : say thanks to the developers!

Hi. First of all I want to thank Vanilla team and the community for great work on this project.
Vanilla finally brings common sense to forum software and it's exactly what forum should look like.

However the problem that we encountered during the work on our project was lack of full documentation for developers.

We're currently building an online social game community and need to develop a custom theme for our forums and also add some custom functionality which is not included in the basic package or plugins.
Our team didn't find the required information in the documentation area so we had to purchase a few custom premium themes to disassemble them and see how they're made. Basically we're now reading the source code and trying to figure out how things work.

My questing for the team and dev community is how does a vanilla developer get started?

Where to refer when basic CSS editing is not enough?

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey folks,
I am really impressed by Vanilla Forums and really hope to see it grow bigger and bigger because it really rocks. I have a couple questions however.

First, is there a possible way to integrate sessions easily somehow? Eg. To check if a user is logged in or not on an external page?

Also, What kind of plugins does vf.org use? There is a number on here I'd like to use myself. Thanks!

Hello,

i am new to Vanilla and i just installed my first forum. But everytime i try to activate an other theme besides the default one, i always getting this error:

Bonk
Something funky happened. Please bear with us while we iron out the kinks.

Did something went wrong in the installation of vanilla? Or do i have to do something special?

i downloaded the themes from here, extracted the zipped file and copied the entire folder in the THEMES folder of vanilla.

Maybe someone can help me out.

thanks in advance

3 ideas.

1) add a documentation and/or tutorial badge to Karma plug-in.

2) And wouldn't be nice if a moderator on this board could change post titles that are solved and provide a good documentation or tutorial with a prefix
like [Documentation] or [Tutorial] in cases where the post evolved into a good tutorial and where the original author cannot edit the title.

3) add the tags tutorial or documentation to the post. if the author cannot do it, could the moderator consider doing it.
