Quite often it's really not as simple as just upgrading though, especially if you're hosting provider won't do that.

Yes it's definitely the same file, I've never touched the hosting other than to upload/update the forum :( Agree it could be their antivirus going crazy, but we only have around 20 members on the site and 4 are reporting the problem.

Have you tried updating to the latest version of Vanilla? I had a similar problem when they were just testing the new mobile themes

If you go to your dashboard, under the 'Users' setting click 'Roles & Permissions' From there you can just untick all of the 'View' permissions for guests and applicants.

Hmm, when I create a new category it lets me add a custom URL which works perfectly, but existing categories? No chance...? :(
