Much needed - great to see.
A non-obvious use: start a whispered thread to youself, & bookmark it: capacious, organized notepad.
Although, to be fair, with Discussion FIlters this already works: Whispered Discussions button handy in the sidebar.
Wallphone - numbering consistent between users due to skipping whispers works for a particular moment, but isn't stable over time if people are free to whisperize and dewhisperize comments.

fysicsluvr: don't know about your browser, but in Opera you can assign symbols to keystrokes (I have ¢ on Shift+Ctrl+c), or enter them by typing the Unicode hex string (¢ is 00A2) and hitting your "convert to Unicode" key. You can moan, or you can…

Nice - thanks, SirNot.
Not sure if you're after WYSIWYG perfection - if so, only flaws I've seen are Vanillacons don't show and addressee / BG color of whispers isn't added (one user remarked this made her uneasy about hitting "submit").

Wanderer - yeah, browser variations are surprising. I use Opera - on your site, strikethrough on DEL doesn't show, button padding (whitespace) is lost, shadow much reduced compared to IE6. Toolbar reduced from 9.3 to 6.9 cm.Still, replacing initials…
It would be very easy to improve the physical and cognitive ergonomics of the buttons:make the tiny ones (italic is 1/16" on my notebook) a lot bigger (Fitts' Law: effort to hit a target is inversely proportional to size) use captions comprehensible…

Also, on our site (www.AndyMurray.com - using old version I guess since smileys are inserted at bottom of post), white-gloved smiley on COOL menu actually inserts :peace: from HAPPY menu.

Don't mind me SirNot - just bumbling through the usual noob epiphanies. "Hey - I can put stuff anywhere on the page!"
The switches you've put in sound ideal.
line height not like fontline ht set = fontSince you mention it, MSB, here's that plus another thing - line height not following font. Edit: easily fixed by adding line-height to style
Minisweeper - I've been converted to a fan of Vanilla and its community by coming here - for the site, it's too late. The non-techie administrator has made his decision - company called Bluhalo taking over - Vanilla's out.
Krak - if it's an extension, user won't enter tags - just data. Done right it's a dialog box, like links. Complexity of URLs is not a problem, since we don't type them.
Not meaning to diss HiddenText - but reading through the thread, people seemed …
Here are three ways to hide spoilers using only HTML: background-color text, tag or button with title, drop-down box:
What is Winona Ryder's real name? Winona Laura Horowitz (highlight to see)In Casablanca, what does Capt. Renault say after Stras…
Right. edit: Veteran: what ADM & Minisweeper are saying is sink power should be mods-only, & normally is (though not on my ill-advised board). Addresses your concerns, right?
(For users, personal sinking would be useful - a finer-grained ve…
WIki-like posts, communally editable, would be a great and simple addition to Vanilla. Just a matter of a new value for editing permission. Things like dictionaries and bug lists - currently need a maintainer, only because contributors can't access …
(at time of writing, #12 in thread is [a worthy member] asking how to delete his post, #13 is [another worthy member]: AFAIK you can't, & this is #14.) First Worthy Member - change it to a whisper to yourself. Nov 11: Alright, WM2!
Point taken... and I'm unclear about how hard it would be to set up, say, a menu of recommended builds, ready to download. Would chop the entry barrier for tech-averse managers, & entice some... if the folks who could do it aren't moved to, a li…
Grahack - re market prospects: our site is about to abandon Vanilla, and my interpretation is that the bare-core-plus-extensions approach has caused this. Basically the site was set up with an inadequate feature set by an unsavvy commercial host/mai…
