I'm working on a pretty big project which I want to integrate with Vanilla 2 and was wondering how hard it would be to display a certain discussion on a website.

So for example, I have an article posted on my website. Instead of using an external comment system, I want to use Vanilla 2 for comments. So if I create a dedicated discussion for this particular article, is there a way to show it in the article and allow people to add their comments without leaving that article page?

Any comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Need to be signed in to post in Vanilla 2? http://www.vanillaforums.org/discussion/10812/need-to-be-signed-in-to-post-in-vanilla-2 Fri, 12 Mar 2010 00:13:29 -0600 antonio23 10812@/discussions Just wondering if in Vanilla 2 you still need to be signed in to comment. Or will there be any guest post facility built in? I hope so as the guest post plugins for Vanilla 1 took quite long to come and were less than ideal in my opinion....but I always used it on my forum as it was extremely important to have.

Guest Post Plugin anybody? http://www.vanillaforums.org/discussion/10827/guest-post-plugin-anybody Mon, 15 Mar 2010 22:43:54 -0600 antonio23 10827@/discussions This has been done for Vanilla 1 already and I have used it snice it was released. On my forum the plugin with captcha worked perfectly. Thee was no added spam or anything and I could increase the amount of comments manifold.

So I would really like to see a guest post plugin for Vanilla 2 also as soon as it comes out officially. I LOVE the new design and hope I can start using it right away when it is released. Any plans for this?

Nginx and Vanilla 2 http://www.vanillaforums.org/discussion/10826/nginx-and-vanilla-2 Mon, 15 Mar 2010 21:16:49 -0600 kylemacdonald 10826@/discussions I have read and recreated the config files from - http://vanillaforums.org/discussion/9915/vanilla-on-nginx/ but have not been able to get everything working properly. Generally the index.php file loads, but any subsequent page doesn't load. It's clear this has to do with the rewrites.

Would anyone be willing to help me with this issue, maybe via PM or through the threads. I have been trying to walk through this in the #nginx IRC channel, but it's clear I need the help of someone more familiar with Vanilla.

Help Needed For Using Vanilla2 On Sub Domain http://www.vanillaforums.org/discussion/10821/help-needed-for-using-vanilla2-on-sub-domain Sun, 14 Mar 2010 07:10:04 -0600 EvanC93 10821@/discussions Hi I was creating a forum for my site that will be open soon. I have had vanilla 1 installed and I deiced I would upgrade to the beautiful vanilla 2. Well installation went great - I made completely new databases - and it installed fine. I had installed in on my existing domain at

http://live.prizepwr.com/

The only error I seem to be getting is when you click an discussion (try to access its url), I get the "Bonk" error page. You can see an example on my site I provided or with the link below

http://live.prizepwr.com/index.php/discussion/1/testing-1-2-3

I think the error lies with the fact that it keeps adding the "/index.php" into the url structure, But I don't know what to do to fix this. Please help with any information that you can.

- Thanks

Admin email to all users? Any news for this function since 2005? http://www.vanillaforums.org/discussion/10822/admin-email-to-all-users-any-news-for-this-function-since-2005 Mon, 15 Mar 2010 06:04:25 -0600 s0mean 10822@/discussions I have been thinking about this function as one of the natural fundamental functions of a forum app and I saw one of the discussions back on 2005 that someone wanted this (incl. Mark himself.. :P)

I am wondering any luck so far? Or it has actually been implemented and I just cannot find out where it is?

Thanks everyone.

Unable to get Vanilla 2 in a subdirectory (eg /forum) http://www.vanillaforums.org/discussion/10809/unable-to-get-vanilla-2-in-a-subdirectory-eg-forum Thu, 11 Mar 2010 16:23:33 -0600 houseofmore 10809@/discussions Hello,

Vanilla 2 is looking nice. We'd like to give it a spin, but can't seem to get it installed outside of the server root. We are attaching it to an existing site, so would like to place it in forums.

Looking at the debug log, it is looking for libraries in the root, even though the path is set to forum.

Does anyone have it working in a subdirectory?

We are able to get the same install working if placed in the webserver root.

Any pointers, or is this still too early?

Subcategories... Well, sorta... http://www.vanillaforums.org/discussion/9834/subcategories-well-sorta Thu, 20 Aug 2009 00:49:47 -0600 Mike.XIII 9834@/discussions Almost every bulletin board software I know of has "subforums" in one way or another, the exception is Vanilla ;)
Yes, I know Vanilla1 has an addon available, but let me continue a little more.

The purpose of a subforum is to further narrow down your list, to make it easier to categorize and in theory, easier to find things as well.
Now that has one important drawback, it usually forces the user to click more, and waste more time getting to what they want.

That right there is the main reason Vanilla intrigued me so much when I first discovered it; On the first page of the forum everything I want is right there in front of me, all the recent discussions without needing to click anything.
Other forums have their "portals" or their "active topics" and so on, but a lot of the time users don't even know those extra pages exist.

So why am I requesting subcategories for Vanilla when I just described them as "bad" from my view? Well because I think other forums are just going about the implementation the wrong way, and I also think Vanilla can do better ;p

Vanilla reminds me a lot like deviantART, because as I said, everything recent is right there on the first page.
Now if you go to http://www.deviantart.com/ and click on any of the categories you'll see how it works wonderfully.

The "All Categories" root shows everything, and with each (sub)Category it narrows down your search. This is very important, because it doesn't just divide the content like folders on your operating system for example, it shows all the content inside that category and recursively shows the content of the subcategories below.
I propose Vanilla2 do the same with discussions.

Locale & translations http://www.vanillaforums.org/discussion/9899/locale-translations Thu, 03 Sep 2009 16:40:33 -0600 Spone 9899@/discussions Hello there!

I'm starting an early French (fr-FR) translation of Garden and Vanilla 2. I've understood that all the translations have to be in the proper application/plugin locale/ folder.

I need a list of all the strings I have to translate. Does such a list exist or do I need to create it myself by searching all the calls to Gdn::Translate() method?

Thanks in advance.
