Ideas for cleaning up views: view models, smarty blocks and template inheritance
I haven't put his as a suggestion on the core github, becuase I have not formalised this and would like more feedback. It is something you could employ yourself in your addons. Views are a weak area of vanilla becuase there is still a lot of logic interleaved with the markup. The markup is inserted in various ways (e.g… -
This is what I did with my Vanilla Forum [Some Feedback + A little Showcase]
Few days back I setup my forum and went with Vanilla as it's pretty clean, lightweight and much more modern and easier to use than traditional forums like phpbb3 and smf. There were some great addons which made life very easy for me. Installing addons is also very convenient unlike PHPBB3 where all sorts of files are… -

mailchecker plugin - issue on Vanilla 3.3
After installing and enabling the plugin, and then trying to refresh the blank domain list in settings... there was a popup error of : "syntax error, unexpected ':'" Checking the comments on the plugin page, that error seemed to indicate that cURL was not installed on the server - but - it is, and the version showing is… -
Re: Disable Activity Functions
I backported that into my install and that solved some issues, but there's still huge slowdowns. Are there plans to have an option to disable activity functionality entirely? Now even people viewing/updating activity via other methods still causes timeouts. # Query_time: 15.467383 Lock_time: 0.000221 Rows_sent: 0… -
Re: I think i like the new layout of vf.org!*
Ok keep popping back, my final word at present lol. It isnt very nice to use. Far too many font sizes, and inconsistent color schemes. The forum itself seems squeezed into the left hand container. The voting ( view counts , new ) boxes , really are way to big. The font family, really seems old for this kind of layout. The… -
Re: share your forums with Vanilla
Neat idea. 😀 Scifi-Meshes is a pretty cool science fiction 3d art forum. Used to run on vBulletin, but we did a whole big server/software migration 2 years ago. Vanilla 3.3 self hosted on a VPS. Advanced Editor and BBCode for life 😋 As far as customization, there's a few things: Custom theme (well, 7 themes technically: 3… -
Re: New OSS Forum Theme - Call for testers and feedback
Looks good @charrondev . As I have been minting in Flarum and Discourse lately, there are a few things that my head currently finds comparable. 1. You guys made Tagging into the core now and the feature is sooooo powerfully awesome, any chance this site will now implement them Tags? I find living without tags is like… -
Re: Using external authentication (Facebook/Twitter/Google) with Approval or Invitation registration
Problem #4 took a bit more work to solve. With no invitation field on the Connect form, the Register process would raise an error for the missing code and display the form used for the Password authentication method. To keep from getting to that point, I decided to add the invitation field to the Connect form and validate…
