edited February 2006 in Vanilla 1.0 Help
over at ma.gnolia (social bookmarking site) when you add a link it automatically displays a thumbnail of the site you just added.

what i wanted to know is if anyone knew how it's possible to do this and if they could point me in the direction of some info.

  • They've got this at http://www.dark-i.com/ as well, you could email the dude their and ask.. don't think it's easy though...
  • There's a free service you can use here: http://www.thumbshots.org/
  • We have implemented something similar at work. Its a shell script that launches a chromeless firefox and takes a screen shot. I will ask my coleague on Monday.
  • You could also get firefox 1.5, install the PageSaver extension, then use the command-line switch '-savepng'.
