Issue with SSO kicking users back to main site

We have SSO setup so users can get to the forum by logging into main website. On the test dev server it has worked find for weeks. When we shifted to the live site there is an issue with SSO working fine for a while then suddenly it will kick users back to the main site and not let them in the forum at all. When they go to the link to the forum (SSO redirect) it appears like it will load (shows loading forum splash page and everything) but after a few seconds it just kicks them out.
It does NOT do this for admin users. SSO still works fine.
Any suggestions? Could this be a cookie issue? If so how do we fix it? Thanks!

This implies it is a permissions issue. Double check the permissions are the same on your test install as in production.
