Jump to last read comment not working

Some of my users are complaining that the jump to last read comment is not working. It's fine for me. I did a search on this forum and it didn't turn up any solutions. Where would be the best place to start troubleshooting something like that?

Is their checkbox "Jump to the last read comment when clicking on discussion topic" (in Account > Forum Preferences) checked? Are they exactly clicking on the discussion topic?

yes they are.

apparantly it jumps when they visit the topic. but it doesn't jump when they add a comment.
